| Broadfield’s
Breed Show
On a VERY hot and humid day we took the new crop of foals out
for their first show. Baby sitting the already weaned Arturo was
last years veteran Manrico, and Maddalena went with her mom, Augusta.
Augusta was first off to show wining the Broodmare class which
qualified her for the mare Championship. (In sport horses the
mares are split by whether they are maiden, Yeld, or Brood mares.)
Augusta then went on to win the overall mare championship which
qualified her for the Regional Cosequin Breeder’s Championships.
She also was Champion Mature Horse! |

Her daughter by Diego, Maddalena was third in the weanling filly class
and very well behaved for her first show.
Arturo won the Weanling Colt or Gelding class and was also an angel.
Manrico was second in the Yearling Colt or Gelding class
The group entry from Regaliz, Manrico and Arturo, won the Get of Sire
class with judges comments of “very similar and nice quality.”
Another group class, the Breeder’s Group we were second with the
group of Augusta, Manrico and Maddalena.
And no one got heat stroke! Thank goodness for our trailer with fans
in it
New England Dressage Association
Fall Championships
Augusta:
1st place Bred Mare.
3rd place Andalusian/Lusitano breed class
1st place IRC breed class
3rd place Cosequin Regional Championship
This was a huge placing for any Andalusian! Augusta was third in the
mare final only by .2 of a point behind a Dutch Warmblood mare. Her
final score was 74.2! This was an incredible honor, just to qualify
for the class is exciting but to place well with scores matching the
others is just incredible. Go Gussie!

Maddalena:
3rd place Weanling fillies
2nd place Andalusian/Lusitano Breed class
A big placing for Maddy! Second in the large Andalusian class behind
an imported stallion by only .4 of a point! The judges just ate Maddy
up, very impressed with her poise, carriage and presence. Anne Gribbons
wrote “excellent type for dressage” on Maddy’s score
card.
| Arturo: 5th
place Weanling Colts and geldings
3rd place IRC Breed class
6th place Andalusian/Lusitano breed class
Another typical Regaliz foal, Arturo is so quiet and gentle
around humans we had a tough time getting him excited enough to
really push off the ground and show that amazing trot of his.
Arturo was most unimpressed with the trailer running behind him
snapping a whip at his heels. Sometimes I wonder if I don’t
over imprint these foals….
It’s nice to know it’s there but like his half sister
Senta we will have to wait until they are under saddle to really
see their brilliance.

2004 Dressage
at Devon Costosa:
3rd place Andalusian/Lusitano Breed Class
6th place Yeld mares 4 and over
Relinquishing her two year streak as winner of this class Costosa
with a new handler running her still placed a respectable third
out of fifteen!

tired to really hold her chin up anymore
and strut. Still a good placing for a baby! |
Arturo:
7th place IRC Breed class
Arturo was also a very tired baby and we scratched him from the Andalusian
class so he could take a nap instead. He remained as well mannered as
usual but had no more trot to give so we didn’t ask.
