NE Pinto Horse Association Area Championship Show

September 15-16, Oneco, CT - NEPtHA, PtHA points rated.

Last show of the season! Augusta and Escorial went to this Championship show for the final Pinto show of the year.Augusta won the Pleasure Mares class and Escorial won his Pleasure geldings class. Then they both went in the Pleasure Grand Championships with Augusta winning and Escorial in Reserve. That qualified Augusta to go in the Champion of Champions class. Sort of like Best in Show from dog shows, only one winner. We didn't win but it was fun to compete in.

There was a photographer there but we haven't gotten pictures yet! Here's one of Augusta with her ribbons we took after we got home. Hopefully we'll get the actual show pictures soon.

New England Dressage Association Fall Championships

September 13-14th, Saugerties, NY. USDF/USEF rated

The final Championships for the sporthorse circuit. We took Zoelynette and Sarastro, Augusta and Tamino. Marti with Janny and Sarika and Sarah Warzecho with Kala and Orlando joined us there.
We competed in open classes as well as the individual breed class for the Andalusians. We didn't come home with any open ribbons in the very large classes but everyone showed really well. The babies were all quiet and very well behaved. Tamino has mom's model pose down pat and just cracked everyone up with his posing. Zoe just loves going out and had such a good time just standing around at the showground's and watching the other horses. Sarastro takes everything in stride and as long as his stall has hay, he could care less where he is.....

Marti's filly Sarika pinned in the open filly class and judge Anne Gribbons just couldn't say enough good things about her. Sarah W.'s colt Orlando had the misfortune of being in the middle of a rapid growth spurt and with his croup about a foot over his head he didn't exactly look or move balanced. Well these things happen! The hazards of showing babies, they change shape so rapidly it's complete luck if a show happens while your baby is in a "pretty" phase

The IBC class was another nice showing with Augusta having a really good run in front of a different judge who gave her a really nice score to win the class. Tamino came in a few points behind his mother for the second place finish.

Our last seasonal show with Marti and Sarah W. They made the whole season so much more enjoyable, big thanks to both for their non-stop help and for always having a smile on no matter what the circumstance!!

The pictures tell the story......

NE Pinto Horse Association

August 5-6 2006 Oneco, CT - NEPtHA, PtHA points rated.

Augusta went back for another showing in the combined Pleasure/Saddle Horse Halter division.

With four judges and Gussie on her best behavior yet, we came home with a mixed bag of results. One reserve Championship, one third, one sixth, one seventh. Apparently the judges have different tastes??

Again, such a quick day we forgot to take pictures. Next one, for sure!

Gussie's last show toting Tamino along, he got weaned the next day. Gussie was very relieved, just in time to get her figure back for the last two shows!

Pine Meadow Farm

July 30th, Ballston Spa, NY - USDF, USEF rated. Cosequin/USDF Breeder’s Championship Series Qualifier.

Sarika strikes her wining pose outside the ring.

The second USDF/DSHB show of the season, an overnighter....

Marti Aman and her young assistant Courtney drove to the showgrounds the day before to spend the night as well. Well good thing they did as their classes ended up being really early in the AM!! (That would have been a long early drive...)

So we all arrive without incident and get our horses settled in for the night. We get to the showground's the next morning to find Augusta and Tamino standing in four inches of water where the stall had flooded from the waterers....

Zoe and Mongo were flooded too but Mongo at least found a high spot by the hay to lay in. Gus and Tamino looked horrified and very unhappy. I was pretty mortified too. Not a great start to the day. So we began with the broodmares class with Augusta and Zoe placing third and fourth. Then Sarika was second in Fillies of 2006. She ran really well in her class, without mom too!

Orlando poses with his dam,
showing off his ribbons.

When Orlando went in the colts class the judge went on and on about how he thought Orlando was just a whisker from First Premium, on and on....well I had warned Sarah W. not to tell the judge the colt was Half Andalusian, let him think the colt was Pure Hanoverian.

Well the judge kept asking about who his sire was and what his breeding was... "a....a....." we stuttered.... Sarah's looking at me, I'm looking at her. Finally we said "he's Half Andalusian...."You should have seen the look on the judge's face.

Janny, Courtney, Marti and Sarika.

Orlando WON the colt class with Tamino in third and Mongo fourth. Then Orlando got to go in the Championships for colts (all the three and unders) and would you believe he was Third? Judge REALLY liked him.....

If that wasn't enough I got Marti and Sarah W to go in the Get if Sire with Orlando and Sarika. We were the only entry but they still got a great score of 75%.

The whole gang in front of Sarah W.'s trailer. From left to right: Courtney, Marti,
Sarah and Sarah W.

I ran Orlando so Marti got to show her own filly for the very first time. And Sarika trotted and walked out like a pro with Marti doing a great job handling.

This show also had Breed Classes so Augusta and Tamino filled out the Andalusian class with Tamino just beating his mom. And then Zoe and Janny went in Friesians with Zoe narrowly winning over Janny.

Zoe hadn't been to a show in three years so she was really enjoying the attention and seemed very happy she got to show as well as her baby.

Mongo took everything in stride for his first show and seemed unphased by just about everything. So in the end everyone got their share of good ribbons, the heat was not bad at all and as usual we had a great time.

We remembered to take pictures of Sarika this time but totally forgot Zoe and Mongo. We were so busy flying back and forth to the ring we barely had time to sit for a minute all day!!

Thanks again to the troops for another great show!

NE Pinto Horse Association

July 8th, Oneco, CT - NEPtHA, PtHA points rated.

Our only back to back shows for the season...thank goodness! The day after our first sporthorse show Kayla and I get up again to go to a Pinto show. Later this time, at 7AM, Gussie and Tamino go back on the truck to head out yet again. We arrive just in time for our class. (The judges went a lot faster than last time!!)

So we got Gussie ready in a hurry and got to the ring just in time to go in for her class! (Phew that was a little close.)

So even though Gussie was a bit distracted with all the hurrying and no Tamino in site, she still managed to pull off three Grand Championships out of four in front of the Judges!!
So back on the truck we went and we were ready to go home. We were literally on the showgrounds for only an hour.

That has to be a world record for speed showing …. It went so fast we didn't even get any pictures but we were grateful we had a quick day!!

Kasson Ridge Farm Dressage and Sport Horse

July 7th, Bethlehem, CT - USDF, USEF rated. Cosequin/USDF Breeder’s Championship Series Qualifier.

Left to right: Marti, Bonnie and Kayla relax under the Tintagel tent.

My trusty friend Kayla came with me as the sole groom and we left Tintagel at 4AM to get to theshowgrounds just after 6 to make our 8AM class with Augusta.

Yawn****

So we drive into the very neat and pretty but COMPACT showgrounds. As we were looking around like "Um where on earth will we park..." The very nice barn manager came out took one look at the size of my rig and said " Hmmm, don't know where to put you.

Most people will be up in the top field...you??? Well how about right here?" She gestured to a spot right next to the indoor where the breed ring was, between the show secretary and the food booth... Kayla and I looked at each other like "well...gee….OK " What parking! We were literally within 10 meters of everything.

Sarah, Augusta and Tamino wait for their turn in the ring.

Thank goodness Kayla had insisted we pack the extra table and cloth since we were in such eye view of all the exhibitors.

We set up a table with business cards, DVD player with the current DVD going and copies of the DVD to hand out. We had our large tent to make a shady canopy and we were all set.

I only took Augusta and Tamino so they had the whole trailer to themselves. We took out all the dividers so they had the largest box stall imaginable.

Leslie even figured out how to set up stall guards for the side doors so the horses could catch the extra breezes. Only the finest for my babies!

Well even when the judges arrived they toured through the trailer for a view of the “fancy condo”

Gussie standing around looking glamorous.

So anyway on to the show. Augusta went in the first class and with no feasible warm-up area Gussie traveled a bit stiff and not her usual flamboyant gaits. Understandable given the long ride but I knew we wouldn’t score very well. Oh well, good enough for a sixth place ribbon.

At 8:20AM Gussie and Tamino were loose back in the trailer munching hay, Kayla and I were camped out in the chairs under the tent and I looked at the time and said “well, only six hours to Tamino’s class….”

***Yawn****

So I caught up with news from friends stopping by and we relaxed on the Oriental carpet spread out under thetent. (Well what did you expect? It IS Tintagel…..).

We managed to miss taking pictures of Sarika at the show. Here is one from home!

So later on Marti Aman with her Regaliz foal out of her sweet Friesian mare Janny pulls in. (Sarika was born here at Tintagel, you might have watched on the cams!)

So we had fun hanging out and then Marti’s daughter, Bonnie, ran Janny and I showed Sarika to a very good score and a 5th place in the fillies class!

Sarika is just as good looking as she was at birth just bigger!!

She received many, MANY compliments about her while standing outside the ring.

Orlando mugs for the paparazzi.

Then our other friend Sarah Warzecho pulls in with her Regaliz foal out of her Hanoverian mare Kala. I got to meet my grandson for the first time.

OH MY GOSH HOW CUTE!!! He was his moms’ son but with all Dad’s attitude.

Kala was in heat and Orlando kept squealing and trying to jump the fifteen feet onto her back. It was so funny, he’s such a little pistol. Well behaved and calm but just the MAN.

Just like Daddy.......

Tamino tells us what he thinks of showing.

Tamino was in the same class as Orlando and the usually patient Tamino was pretty tired by 2:30PM…

He went OK but not his best. I turned around and ran Orlando for Sarah and at five weeks old he went like a trooper!

He ended up with a great score and fourth place! Tamino got a surprising very good score too and a sixth place.

All in all even though it was a long day it was a lot of fun because of the all the friends that stopped by and came to show off their babies.

On the first sunny day in over a week we took Augusta and Escorial for our first venture into the world of Pinto showing.

Augusta and Escorial both are pleasure types so we had to compete against each other in the same class. I thought Augusta would be the easiest to handle so I had Leslie Fountain show her for me while I handled Escorial.

Both showed well although Tamino yelling outside the ring for his mommy was a bit distracting for Gussie who could not focus with the distraction.

While we were in the ring Leslie said several people came up to her on the rail and commented about what a beautiful mare Augusta was.

As we entered the ring whispers of "That's the Andalusian" could be heard. Escorial also got his share of comments on his beautiful coloring.

Imagine our excitement (and Leslie's complete shock) when Augusta was Grand Champion under one judge and reserve Champion under the other! Escorial did a respectable 5th and 6th out of a class of 9. Leslie did an amazing job with Gussie and we will certainly be back for the next Pinto show in July.

Westfield Fairgrounds

May 7th, Westfield, MA - Open show, unrated

Season Opener!

We took Zerbinetta to her first show ever. It was a local open show with a colt/filly class. Zerby, being born late in the year, never went to any shows as a baby. In fact I realized she had never been for a trailer ride before show day! (whoops) She had been on the trailer but not driven around.

Well true to Zerby nature she walked on the trailer and off we went. She ate hay quietly the WHOLE time. She did not even paw or move once!!

We left her in the trailer by herself eating for 45 minutes while we went and signed up. Came back, not a paw mark or anything, no calling, nothing. We get her all dolled up and brought her out. Zerby goes "wow cool...show...." and that was about as exciting as it got! She walked around the ring then we waited outside the Ring for an hour waiting for our class. Zerby ate grass and looked adoringly at the little ponies...that was about it.

We went in our halter class (oh did I mention Zerby started halter training three days before the show?) We went in first and

Zerby did her pattern, set up, stretched her neck and pointed those ears up like a PRO. It was so amazing. Even knowing her quiet temper but still...

We ended up fifth out of about 8-9. Of course I'm not biased or anything but she was certainly one of the best turned out and conditioned horses on the whole showgrounds. I don't think the Western QH judge knew what she was!

Zerby couldn't have been better behaved, we stayed for the Championship class just for practice.

Again Zerby trotted out, stood rock still and posed for the whole class. Then we calmly walked back to the trailer and drove home, Zerby munching quietly the whole time. And this was a local show but huge, the show grounds was packed with horses. Zerby never blinked.

It amazed even me, especially how quiet she was in the trailer BY HERSELF for the first time ever. This filly is just way cool!
