| One
of the latest activities at Tintagel was a visit by Animal
Planet who needed some footage for a short segment
for one of their TV shows. They provided their own stunt rider,
Bob Allegretto, who had worked with Mel Gibson on the movie
The Patriot, and all they needed was a horse.
The action required was to gallop through hill and dale and
I decided to use one of our broodmares, Caprichosa (see
mares page) with Uther as the double for close ups. They
are almost identical!
The
funniest part of the whole filming was when they wanted to
film the horse galloping with the camera right next to her.
"Do you think shell be OK if we put the camera
man on the ATV and drive next to her?" The producer asked.
"Lets find out" I replied. Sure enough, true
to her calm Andalusian nature Cappy never blinked as I roared
the ATV into fourth gear not ten feet from her while at full
gallop.

So with myself driving and Tom, the camera man, hanging on
for dear life onto the back, we made several passes at top
speed around the fields. As funny as this all was they ended
up getting some of the best footage of the day! Then Uther
was used for close-ups and got the easy job of the day! The
stunt rider had never ridden Andalusians before, much less
a trick trained one, so when the filming was done we had some
fun letting Bob ride Uther through some of his tricks.
